I hope this newsletter finds you well and thriving in your academic endeavors. The Office of Strategy is thrilled to bring you some exciting updates and achievements within our vibrant community in the year 2023.
Digital and AI Webinar: In a stride towards the future of fashion and sustainability, Bluecrest School of Fashion and Design spearheaded by the office of Strategy hosted a transformative webinar on AI and Digital Fashion, featuring esteemed panelists from some of the most influential names in the international fashion space. The objective? To explore the potentials and prospects of digital and AI fashion specifically within the African fashion industry. Being a tremendous success, the panel from ESMOND fashion school, Timberland etc. delved into the intersection of technology, artificial intelligence, and the fashion industry, providing valuable insights into the prospects and potentials of AI and Digital fashion in Africa.
School of Fashion Selected for 2023 Institution of the Year Award: We are proud that Bluecrest Fashion School was selected as the 2023 Fashion Institution of the Year by the Ghana Fashion Tertiary Awards. This recognition is a testament to our commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and the overall growth of the school of fashion. Congrats to the SFD for winning this award.
Fashion Education Series with Ghana Tertiary Fashion Awards: The fashion education series reached new heights with a successful collaboration with the Ghana Tertiary Fashion Awards in November 2023. The endeavor gave opportunity for Bluecrest students to network and interact with Ghana’s top fashion brands solidifying Bluecrest’s position as a hub for aspiring fashion professionals. The event hosted Fashion A-listers like Abrantie the Gentleman, Metakay, Kuks, Kojo Boadi among others at the Bluecrest Auditorium.
Graduation for Cohort 2 Participants of Socreative Africa E-Learning Program: We are delighted to share that the last cohort of the Socreative Africa E-learning Program from the British Council have graduated. The virtual graduation witnessed 403 participants from the program completing a grand total of 503 learners. Speaking at the graduation, the Vice Rector of Bluecrest, Mr. Hanson encouraged participants to put into practice the knowledge participants have gained from the program. Bluecrest continues to explore such opportunities for its students through various collaborations.
SG Bank Collaboration for ARTIVITY Project: Following the impressive 2023 Apaso) Kasa event, SG Bank is set to explore a collaboration for its ARTIVITY Project in 2024. The success of Apaso) Kasa Fashion show left a lasting impression on guests, and we look forward to further collaborations that merge art, technology, and education. Stay tuned for more updates.
Department of IT participates in Tech-In-Ghana 2023: Students from the Department of IT participated in the Tech-In-Ghana 2023 Fair. the fair hosted key professionals across the tech industry in Ghana with a partnership from the American Embassy. Four students from the IT department of Bluecrest coached by their faculty displayed their innovative robotic system which detects gas on the mining field or any related organization to avoid explosion. Congratulations to the IT department for taking advantage of this opportunity and for shining a spotlight on the department.
Rebranding the End-of-Semester Fashion Show: The end-of-semester fashion show rebranded into a Street fashion extravaganza, kicking off at the iconic Accra Mall in Dec 2023. The show was like never before, showcasing the creativity and innovation of our budding fashion designers. Get ready for a thrilling transformation in 2024 as we seek to storm major streets and Malls in Accra.
Bringing Industry to the Classroom: Discussions have concluded on a financial literacy program with SG Bank, bringing practical industry knowledge directly into our classrooms. This initiative aims to empower students with essential financial skills for their future success. Staff from SG Bank will be teaching Financial Literacy course to semester 7 & 8 students of the college starting in Spring 2024. This program with SG Bank is expected to expose Bluecrest students to industry expectations and equip them with financial skills for the job market.
International Partnership: Bluecrest is set to host two faculty members from the University of Arts London, for a one-day interaction and engagement following the success of the 2023 sustainability-themed Apaso) Kasa fashion show. The meeting, set to kick off in March 2024 will explore potential collaboration between the two universities for mutual benefits. Stay tuned for updates.
Summer Exchanges and Study Abroad Opportunities: The department is in talks with two prominent universities for summer exchange programs for the 2024 long vacation. Similarly, there are ongoing discussions for dual degree programs and virtual collaborative projects with international study partners. Detailed information will be shared soon.
School of Fashion & Design @ 10: The School of fashion and Design is earmarked to celebrate its 10th anniversary marking a decade of innovative teaching and learning in the fashion landscape. Updates to be shared on various activities to be held.
