SoT in connection with Faithfulness Chukwunonso Chukwurah – BSC.IT(Final year student) came up with a 3D rendering of the Black Star Square as his final year project.
The Independence Square was built and completed in the year 1961 set to coincide with the arrival of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Black Star Gate located at the centre of the Independence Square is a monument topped by the Black Star of Africa which represents the lone star of Africa and Ghana being the first independent African country. It has the inscription “AD 1957” and “Freedom and Justice”. It was commissioned by Kwame Nkrumah to indicate the country’s sovereignty and the ability to handle its own affairs. The Black Star Square and its monuments have stood to stand as a symbol of Ghanaian freedom and independence from her colonial masters.
The Independence Square now the Black Star Square is located in Accra, Ghana. The Independence Square contains monuments dedicated to Ghana’s struggle to independence including the Independence Arch and the Black Star Gate.
